På denna sida publiceras somligt allvarligt, somligt roligt, somligt tänkvärt, somligt lättsamt, som jag vill spara i första hand för eget nöje,men jag delar gärna med mig. ------ This blog is set up as an archive of interesting things I discovered on the net on culture in general. It is in the first place for my personal use, but I'm glad to share with those who are interested.

The earlier Danza Españolas date from the last decade of the nineteeth century and were one of the first works to proclaim and establish once and for all the new spirit of the Spanish nationalism. Even so, the Danza Española No. 4 - a Villanesca, is not through with echoes of the Scandinavian Grieg, though the infectious and bucolic gaiety are undeniably Spanish, in particular the finely contrasted middle section - a canzonetta, which is also amazingly classical in outline.

It is, however, his earlier pieces and in particular the Suite Española Opus 47 which initially brought Albeniz such fame and succes in his lifetime. This Suite was published 1886. It consists of four highly impressionistic tone poems. The evocation of Granada -surely one of his most Idyllic pieces, the exhilarating portrait of Sevilla and the gay and busling Saeta Cadiz.
