På denna sida publiceras somligt allvarligt, somligt roligt, somligt tänkvärt, somligt lättsamt, som jag vill spara i första hand för eget nöje,men jag delar gärna med mig. ------ This blog is set up as an archive of interesting things I discovered on the net on culture in general. It is in the first place for my personal use, but I'm glad to share with those who are interested.

Wikipedia:

Vatroslav Lisinski (Zagreb, 8 July 1819  – Zagreb, 31 May 1854) was a Croatian composer.

Lisinski was born Ignaz Fuchs to a German Jewish family.[1] He would later change his name to Vatroslav Lisinski.[2]

Lisinski composed the first Croatian opera, Ljubav i zloba ("Love and Malice", 1846), which he wrote at the urging of Alberto Štriga, and Porin (1851) as well as numerous works for orchestra, choir and soloists.

He was also one of the founders of the Illyrism, a movement that advocated the importance of Croatian cultural heritage, as a reaction to Magyarisation during the Austro-Hungarian rule.
